Update from Agent Focused 1.0 to Agent Focused 2.0

It's straight forward to update from Agent Focused 1.0 to Agent Focused 2.0.

Update WordPress, Genesis, Plugins, if needed

  1. Make a backup of your website or a restore point, if you're using WP Engine.
  2. If you see that updates are needed:
Update WordPress to the latest version.
Update Genesis to the latest version.
Update all plugins to the latest version.
  3. Make another backup of your website or a restore point, if you're using WP Engine.
You will want the backup, in case you want to restore your website to what it was before you update.
  4. If you use Cloudflare, put it in Development mode.

Make Notes on Customizer and Widget Placement

  • You may want to look at your customizations under Appearance > Customize. If you only have customizations in the WordPress customizer, you should be able to update easily.
  • Note which image you use for Front Page 1, as you will probably need to add it back.
  • Note any CSS added under Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS. After the update, you will be able to remove any CSS added for IDX Broker, as that's now in the theme. You will want to keep any other CSS.
  • Go to Appearance Widgets. Note your widget placement, as a few widgets may move to a different widget area, usually to the sidebar.

Did You Customize Theme Files?

  • If your theme was customized with changes the theme files, such as style.css or functions.php, then you will need to consider if you even want to update the theme. It's not necessary.
  • You will want to use your hosting File Manager or FTP to download a copy of your current theme files.
  • If you decide to update and you want to keep your changes, you will want to do a file comparison and copy any file changes you made to the new theme before you update or plan to do so after you update.
  • You can also choose to update, if you don't mind losing your file changes.

Update Theme to Agent Focused Pro 2.0

  1. Go to Appearance > Themes.
  2. Hover over Genesis Framework and click the Activate button. (It will tell you that you need a child theme, but that's OK.)
  3. Click on Agent Focused and then click the red Delete link in the lower right corner.
  4. You should still be on the Appearance > Themes screen.
  5. At the top, click on Add New button.
  6. At the top, click the Upload Theme button.
  7. Click the Choose File button and find the file for Agent Focused theme on your computer; it will end in “.zip”.
  8. Click the Install Now button.
  9. This time you want to click the text link Activate.
  10. Do NOT click one of the starter packs; your website is already set up with your own content.

Do NOT Click a Starter Pack

Please do NOT click one of the starter packs. Your website is already set up with your own content.
Clicking a starter pack will move all your current front page widgets to the Inactive Widget area under Appearance > Widgets. If do you accidentally click a Starter pack, it won’t delete any content or widgets; you will just need to drag the widgets back into place.
See the Front Page Set Up, if needed.

What to Check After the Update

  1. Go to your home page and do a hard refresh in your browser.
  2. Check to see if your Front Page Image is still there.
    • If not, go to Appearance > Customize > Front Page Image.
    • You may see your image as being there
    • Go ahead and choose the image from your Media Library again.
    • Click the blue Publish button.
  3. If your widgets seem to be missing on the home page, they are most likely in the Primary Sidebar widget area.
    • Go to Appearance > Widgets.
    • Find the widgets that don't belong in the sidebar. You can also look for missing widgets in your Inactive Widgets section.
    • The widgets that are usually out of place are for Footer 1 and perhaps Front Page 2 Right, although you may have others.
    • Drag the widgets back into the correct widget area.
  4. Remove the CSS for IDX Broker.
    • You can go to Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS.
    • Look for the CSS that you added for IDX Broker; it should be marked with comments.
    • Delete the IDX Broker CSS, but keep any other CSS that you added.
